IBPS Common Interview Preparation Tips

Common tips and guidelines for cracking IBPS Interviews:


  1. You should take care of your Body Language: Your body language is very important and at no time it should be negative. Fidgeting, avoiding eye contact with the interviewer, too much eye contact with the interviewer, thumping on the desk while talking, pointing fingers or too much hand movement, hands folded across the chest and taking a defensive posture are all negative attributes and should be best avoided while appearing for an interview.
  2. Dress Code: Maintain a formal dress code. Be careful that you’re your dress is neat and clean and properly pressed. It is better not to overdo with appearance. Female candidates should not put too much makeup and should not be wearing very bright or gaudy clothes. Dress should be sober and of neutral shade. Hair should be neatly arranged or combed.
  3. Be prepared with a short introduction of yourself that you would like to present in front of the interview panel: The introduction should be short while highlighting all your achievements. It should start with something regarding your family background and then go on to the educational graph with proper emphasis on your strengths and achievements.
  4. Be prepared to answer questions related to your biodata: Always remember that your biodata is a comprehensive document on your achievements and skills and your educational qualification. So each section of your biodata, be it the goals and achievements that you have written down or the scores in each of the examinations or the areas of interest that you have expressed can provoke a lot of question. Be prepared to answer all, for example why you scored lower in some exam compared to the previous exam or why did you choose a particular stream or college or how your qualification makes you suitable for banking job etc.
  5. Read newspapers regularly: Just in case if you are not in the habit of reading newspapers, make sure you start reading when you start preparing for IBPS exam. Newspapers will not only update you on the national and international happenings all across the world and make you updated but will also help to develop your vocabulary and your English reading, writing and comprehension skills.
  6. Be well versant with the current affairs of your own region and state: Apart from being skilled in the local language you also need to be well aware of all the current happenings of your state. The political scenario, the names of all the administrators and big shots, the industries and the economical, financial and social makeup of the state need to be thorough in your mind. 
  7. Know your industry: You need to prepare separately and thoroughly about banking as an industry. You should be familiar with all the common terminologies related to banking and also all the general functioning and the services that a bank provides.
  8. Why would you choose banking as your career: You are required to be very clear as to why you chose banking as a career option and why you think banking job suits you and your career goals. You should also be clear as to where you would like to see yourself in five years or ten from joining.
  9. Self analysis: You should be able to point out all your strengths and weaknesses and should also be able to convince the interviewers that in spite of all your weaknesses, your strengths prevail and your weaknesses never get a chance to affect your performance. You should also point weaknesses in a manner that ultimately sounds beneficial to the organization. For example, one of your weakness could be your fetish for perfection or even you being a workaholic.
